Universidad privada estadounidense con sede en Cambridge, famosa por la alta calidad de su formación académica y de sus investigaciones científicas y tecnológicas.

Fue fundada en 1861 y cuenta con escuelas de arquitectura y planificación, ingeniería, humanidades y ciencias sociales, administración de negocios (la Sloan School) y ciencias, además de un college (colegio universitario) de ciencias de la salud y tecnología. Aunque el MIT es más conocido por sus programas en ingeniería y ciencias físicas, otras áreas de importancia también son la economía, las ciencias políticas, los estudios urbanos, la lingüística y la filosofía. Entre sus instalaciones se cuentan un reactor nuclear, un centro de computación, observatorios geofísicos y astrofísicos, un acelerador lineal, un centro de investigación espacial, túneles de viento supersónico, un laboratorio de inteligencia artificial, un centro de ciencia cognitiva, y un centro de estudios internacionales.
